Summary: Laugavegur is more Lord of the Rings than the actual Lord of the Rings, just unbelieveable. In fact, this is the single most beautiful place I have ever been (and I have been in some places). It is sublime. Nowhere else have I stood in such utter disbelief at the unique beauty of a landscape. Why is it so good? It is purely unique, there is no landscape that I have seen that matches its appearance. You will look at things in nature that you have never seen before, it is an art piece. The hike is a journey through some of Iceland’s highlights; from the Central Highland’s geothermally active start, freshly hardened lava flows, black ash deserts, quick sand, thermal vents, natural hot springs, boiling mud pits, massive glaciers, smoking volcanos and wandering creeks – to the southern coast’s high glacier caps and black landscape – the entire trek is fantastic, and for those interested in a trekking trip out of the ordinary, the perfect destination. Even more spectacular, the whole Thorsmörk area, which is next to Eyjafjallajökull, was still covered by thick, black ash. This is a hike of a lifetime. Really.
